I first visited Oaxaca de Juarez, Mexico in 1979. I later spent time visiting in 2013, 2016, 2017 and nearly a year living there during 2018-2019, and continue to visit occasionally. I first visited Merida, Yucatan in 2008, lived there during 2017-2018, and continue to visit. The ongoing Mexico Works series is inspired by innovative small businesses across southern Mexico. The placement of objects, accumulations, and the general organization of an owner's work area appeals to me. These businesses often thrive without the need for a large capital investment, and with lower rents and few restrictions on retiree home enterprises, innovative entrepreneurs (ie. a lady with simply a clothes-ironing business) can afford to move in and get straight to work. An ongoing project.
